Today lets Talk about Trees and why they are associated with man. Again, as we learned in the earlier issues of Dream Forum, associations are General, Biblical or Personal and any association is dependent upon who the dreamer is, other aspects of the dream, and how things unfold.

There is a DREAM posted at the bottom. It is your turn to Interpret.

There are publications available which can be helpful with identifying what items or elements might symbolize is your dreams. Here are a few.

  1. A to Z Dream Symbology Dictionary - Dr. Barbie L Breathitt

  2. The Divinity Code To Understanding your Dreams and Visions - Thompson/Beale

  3. Numbers that Preach - Troy Brewer

Some elements or items that show up in our dreams represent things that we would never be able to guess. One of those items is a tree. Trees in the Bible are metaphorically used in connection with man.

Trees representing People.

I have taken this association for granted since everything that I have read and every Dream Element book that I have, all say this same thing. That a tree is representative of a person.

  • A Taller tree representing an important person.

  • A forest of trees referring to the masses of people.

  • A tree that is big around, representing years of life would represent a person of wisdom or age.

Though I am aware of passages in the Bible that do make this comparison I was not convinced of this association.

This is where we have to step back and say “ok, I need to be convinced of this and find out where this association originates in the Bible.”

Here is what I found with just a little effort.

I did a search and one of the first links was a discussion on this topic, and it all starts in Genesis 1:1

I will give you the short version and encourage you to do your own research into this and other elements that you come across.

The association begins with the pairing of Day 1 with Day 4, Day 2 with Day 5 and Day 3 with Day 6 in Chapter one of the book of Genesis.

Day 1: God Creates one thing, God said let there be “Light”

Day 2: God also Creates one thing, The Waters and then He separates them, above and below.

Day 3: Then God does two things, first He gathers the waters into one place so that dry land would appear.

  • Secondly, He says let the earth bring forth grass and fruit trees with seed to reproduce according to their kind.

Here is where we see the pairing of Day 1 with Day 4

Day 4 Defines the light of Day 1. The Light is The Sun, the Moon and the Stars

Then we have the pairing of Day 2 with Day 5

God then populates the waters below and the waters above from Day 2 with Fish and Birds on Day 5.

Lastly we see the pairing of Day 3 with Day 6

Day 6: God Creates Mammals and Man.

  • On Day 3 God brings forth Fruit Trees with Seed to reproduce their own kind

  • In Chapter 2 of Genesis, Man too, would have seed and would be told to be fruitful and multiply.

  • In Genesis chapter 2_verse 7 it says that God formed man from the dust of the ground.

  • Then in verse 9 it reads “ and out of the ground God caused every tree to grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.”

Both the Tree of Day 3 and the Man of Day 6 are defined as:

  • of the ground,

  • equipped with seed,

  • and can produce more of the same kind.

This pairing, or association can not be coincidental given that the pairing of Day 1 and Day 4, as well as, Day 2 and Day 5 are directly preceding the pairing of Day 3 and Day6.

The Comparison continues.

  • The Hebrew words for “formed” from verse 7 and “caused to grow” from verse 9 of Genesis chapter two, have the same root.

  • Both Man and Trees come from the ground

This comparison continues in the discussion throughout Genesis and into the New Testament.

Pleasant to the sight: The Hebrew word for “pleasant to the sight” in Genesis chapter 2 verse 9 makes an appearance throughout the book of Genesis.

  • The same Hebrew word used for “pleasant to the sight” in Genesis 2 in reference to trees, is used to describe both Sarah and Rebekah, when both Abraham and then Issac, go to live in foreign Lands ruled by kings unknown to them. Both men lie about who their wives are, saying that it is their sister. These women were “pleasant to the sight” of the King.

  • Likewise this same word is used to describe Joseph when pursued by Potiphar’s wife. Potiphar’s wife found Joseph to be “pleasant to the sight

It is easy to write these types of observations off as a coincidence, but the more you get to know God, through His Word, you come to realize there is nothing incidental. These descriptions are defined as early as Chapter one of Genesis and they set a president for the rest of the Bible.

The New Testament continues the tree/man relationship.

From this curiosity to find out why trees in a dream can be a representation of men, we gain a whole new understanding into the mind and heart of God. Here are some connections.

When Jesus heals the blind man:

Mark 8:24 - And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.”

  • This healing took two interactions with “the Healer”. After the first interaction the blind man told Jesus that he could now see, but only partially where everything was blurry, and men looked like trees.

Then we have Jesus cursing the fig tree (for lack of fruit). Matthew 21: 18-22. In the following Chapters of Matthew, Jesus would proclaim the death of Jerusalem due to lack of fruit. The Temple will also be destroyed. Not one stone will be left on top of another… Matthew 24:2 (The Temple and fall of Jerusalem would be representing the people of Israel)

Here is another one that I thought of concerning the phrase “good for food” referencing the fruit trees. Jesus references his own flesh to be “good for food”. The bread of life.

  • This phrase again from Genesis chapter 2 is “Pleasant to the sight and good for food”

  • Good for food: Jesus said “Take this bread and eat, it is my body, given for you.”

The poetic nature of the Hebrew language and of the scriptures along with Word association, is big in the Biblical narrative.

Here is a common poetic word association which is similar to what is being poetically introduced in Genesis Chapter 1 that might help demonstrate this point.

“Roses are Red

Violets are Blue

Sugar is sweet and so are you.”

The recipient of this message is naturally being called sweet. However, the recipient is also being associated with Roses and Violets which is not the first takeaway from the poem but it is definitely an association of this sweet girl being as a flower.. Therefore the girl is both sweet and beautiful and you could say she has more than one shade of beauty, red and blue. The girl is like a flower.

As you read, study and dive deeper into Biblical truths you will open up an avenue of Bible study that will not grow dry and leave you wondering if you are getting anything out of what you are reading.

Here is our Dream for the week.

Many Dreams have trees, however, this dream points to the tree and is a focal point of the dream.

12/22/2022

I am out in a wilderness area and there are some roads. I plan to go down a particular road to get to a particular place. A father and someone else are up in a very large vehicle (maybe even bigger than an earthmover) and the father tells me instead to go up to the next road and to take a right  then go to the end and It will be there.

I see the top of a very large pine tree that has a cone shaped crown on the top that I will remove and use as a crows nest.

Additional Dream information

  • My goal in the dream was to find the perfect Christmas tree.

  • This dream occurred 12/22/22 just before Christmas

  • I was immediately obedient to the man in the Earthmover knowing him to be an authority.

Questions

  1. What does the tree represent in the dream?

  2. What does the wilderness represent?

  3. What does the Top of the Tree represent in the dream?

  4. Who is “The Earthmover”? The man in the earthmover?

  5. Who might the other person in the earthmover be?

  6. What might the instructions from the man, mean to me?

List all the elements before trying to answer the questions.

Email me what you get and I will share what everyone comes up with in our next issue.
