Many scriptures speak of God’s power and authority over waves. Some about the destructive power of waves. And then there are a handful that speak to how waves can overwhelm the righteous.

2 Samuel 22:5 “ when the waves of death surrounded me…”

Psalm 88:7 God afflicts me with all his waves…

Psalm 93:3 “…the floods lift up their waves. 4 the Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many Waters, Than the mighty waves of the sea.

Job 9:8 God treads upon the waves.

Job 38:11 God sets the boundaries of the waves.

Psalm 65:7 and Psalm 89:9 God stills the noise of the waves.

Isaiah 48:18 Heeding God’s commands, brings righteousness like the waves of the sea.

Psalm 42:7 All your waves have gone over me.

Jeremiah 51:42 The sea has come up over Babylon; She is covered with the multitude of its waves.

Ezekiel 26:3 “Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes its waves to come up.

Isaiah 17:12 Listen! The armies of many nations roar like the roaring of the sea. Hear the thunder of the mighty forces as they rush forward like thundering waves.

There are a handful more scriptural references to waves, but they all follow the same vein. God’s authority over waves, or God‘s power being used for comfort or destruction. The sound of the enemy, and the movement of God throughout the earth.

Waves in dreams

Biblically Waves in dreams, many times, are destructive and being used to eliminate the target.

• If it is a wave from the enemy, you are the target, or whatever, or whoever, the dream points to is the target.

• If the wave is from the Lord, the enemy in the target, or whatever, or whomever is coming against you, is the target.

• It could also be a warning of an enemy approaching.

• Or it could be God showing his authority and power over a situation.

God has authority over the waves regardless.

Lets look at some examples from dreams.

Dream 1: Here is a dream from April of 2021.

Dream - I am on a 3 day trip that I was planning, so I could be alone with the Lord. I am in a kayak on the Mississippi, and water started rushing downstream toward me. (from calm to massive rapids). Seemed like a dam must have been breached up stream.

Vision 1: Also from 2021, October.

Vision: I see the crest of an ocean wave with teeth.

Dream 2: From September 2022.

Dream - I am cleaning some glasses or bottles with a bottle brush. There is a ½ full Glass of water. Then a wave rises in the glass and overflows. A pitcher of water does the same thing. Then like a wave, the earth shifts and the ocean overflows and a tsunami is coming. I tell aunt Jeanne to just go with the tide, I have coffee brewing.

Dream 3: This happened right after Dream number 2

Dream: I am graphing wave phenomena with the glass, the pitcher, and the tsunami. The sine wave graph for the ocean wave (Tsunami) is filled in with yellow, under the wave.

As you can see waves in dreams can communicate many different things.

Lets step through some possible meanings.

Dream 1: The wave in this dream can either be by the enemy, or a great move of God. Either way I am protected. There is no better personal craft to be in, than one designed to be used in rapids, like a kayak.

In Vision 1, The wave has teeth. This is a nasty destructive wave meant to devour.

Dream 2: Seems to be an overwhelming of the individual(glass), the family (pitcher) and the nation, or nations (tsunami). To the comment from my aunt Jeanne (Jeanne means “God is gracious”) to just go with it, let’s sit and enjoy a cup of coffee says, “trust in God’s grace and He will carry us along with the waves, safely”

Yellow: means gift, hope, Glory of God or Judgement

In Dream 3 the graph of the tsunami having yellow under it can indicate that the wave is being upheld by the yellow. Yellow can mean hope, the glory of God or Judgement. I would take this to mean judgement is coming to the nation or nations. ( I would also take this on a personal and family level as well. You could extend that to the church and the rest of society without stretching the meaning of this. I believe it is all encompassing from the least to the greatest and everything in between.

Another thought about the YELLOW under the graphed wave, is that though there is judgement coming like a tsunami, there is hope beneath the wave.

There are other aspects to some of these dreams, however, the point of this exercise is to show how waves in dreams can speak to various things.

• Provision and rising above the waves, from dream number 1.

• Warning, that a devouring wave is coming from vision number 1.

• Dream 2 speaks of trusting the grace of God.

• Dream 3 is an extension of Dream 2 and it speaks to holding on to hope through this judgement, that is coming to everyone and everything big and small.
